Embed Google Photos Album into a website

Google Photos is my favorite favorite photo and video sharing and storage service but I have been frustrated by their lack of options to embed my Google photo albums. I’ve finally found a solution to embed my Google Photos albums as a slideshow.

Google Photos is my favorite photo and video sharing and storage service.

My phone is set to automatically uploaded photos to Google photos in high resolution when I’m connected to WiFi.

With Google photos I can access my photos across all my devices and it’s packed with numerous features that help me organize, use and manage my photos.

Embed Google photos albums

I really love organizing my photos into Albums BUT Google Photos frustrates me as they don’t provide an option for embed my Google photo albums into my website.  Before Google Photos we had Picasa Web Albums which made it easy to embed an album as a slideshow.

I searching for the solution for a year and tried numerous options including some WordPress plugins.  None suited what I was looking for until now!

Here’s how to embed Google Photos Album:

1.  Log into Google Photos on your computer.

2.  Click on the Album you want to embed.  Click on Share icon.

3.  Click on Get Link and then Copy.

4.  Go to Publicalbum.org

5.  Paste your Google Albums link into box and press Create Embed Code.

6. Here you’ll be able to change the way your album is displayed if you wish. When you’re happy, select the embed code on the right and copy it.

7.  Paste the embed code into your post using Insert Embed in the Add Media Window and then click Insert into Post.

The method you use will depend on the website or blog platform you use.  This is how you do it on Edublogs and CampusPress networks.

8.  Once the post is published you will see the album embedded as a slideshow.

“The Western Mail” Centenary Number publication which was published in July, 1929 to commemorate the 100 years of the founding of Perth and the establishment of the Swan River Colony, the first permanent European settlement in Western Australia.

The 80 page publication highlights development and history of Western Australia from 1828 to 1929 in Perth and country towns. It includes photos from 1800’s to 1929 comparing changes in the city, towns, Parliament, transport, sport, fashions, primary production. The publication was sold for 1/6 in July, 1929.

It’s packed full of content that could be used with students and will be helpful for those interested in history.

    Hi,
    I am very pleased that you are using my tool.
    I would add that I have redesigned the Google Photos Album embedding tool. The result code has changed. Please correct this information in the article or write to me for more information. Now I can use the wordpress plug-in and I’m going to make some more modifications.

    Hello, I’m wondering if the album keeps getting up-to-date. So if you add new photos to the Google Photos album, will these photos automaticly appear on your website as well? Or do I need to follow these steps and make a new link for my website every time I upload a new photo to this album?

      Hi, if you add new photos to your Google album I would expect the embed will update but it could take a bit of time to reflect depending on if there is any caching. i.e. wait several hours after you added new photos before checking the embed.

    Does this mean of you delete photos they will continue to show?
    What about text – I used to have slideshows with committee members on several sites but since Picasa was finally killed off the RSS feed no longer works. That automatically include captions and used the most current album with no waiting time.
    Does your workaround do all that – if not would it be possible for me to modify it?

      Hi Nigel, deleting the photo from inside the Google Photo album removes it from the album. It is possible there will be a delay in seeing it removed from the embedded album as the embed may cache and only fetch the latest feed every few hours.

      Frustrating that they killed off Picasa.

      Hi there, to embed a single image in WordPress, select the image from your Google Photos account, then click on the Share button in the top right of the screen, followed by selecting ‘Create Link’. Copy this link and paste it in https://ctrlq.org/google/photos/ to generate an Image Embed Code that you can then use in your WordPress site.

    Hi Sue,
    Is there any way to make the background different colour than jet black. When I choose different colour or type in Transparent in the Background Colour options the photos do not show – all I get is all black screen.

    This is wonderful!!
    Thank you so much! I have one question/problem. When I view the album in my site ti looks great in Chrome and on PC but not on my apple device. The image container seems to be the wrong size. Too big or too small. I can make it bigger than necessary which at least then the images can be viewed. However, I need to tell it to be positioned at the top of the container. I’m getting space at the top and the image floating in the middle which then I have to drag up to view. Any thoughts on how to modify for this??

    Hi, in this page, the examples allow to scroll when you touch when in mobile. That is, they become active only when you press play. But in my website, once you scroll to the album, you can only move sideways, not up and down. You have to touch outside the album to continue scrolling. Do you know how can I solve this? Thanks in advance.

    Hi! I don’t know what happens, but the examples don’t work on my laptop with Opera browser. I can see the first photo, but when I click on the next arrow, I cannot see anything anymore.
    Has something changed?

      Thanks for making me aware. Changes to the editor I was using affected the code I had added. I’ve replaced the code and it is working properly again.

    All this is of course good, but let’s say people want to embed 100 photos on their website, wouldn’t it be better to give people a script? or did I skip and your give the script? sorry my bad english
