Sue, this is a really catchy "headline" and made me read... I think I've gained real weight from too much time online and thought you might have a plan for me! Blog on a treadmill... that kind of thing. When I read that it was about headers etc, I thought... hmm, I wonder how my blog would weigh up here? It has a bold, plain header, I use graphics (hopefully in a good way) butI had never considered how or if I used texture/pattern.
I like bold, uncluttered and easy to find info. My blog is technots.blogspot.com. If any of you have time I'd love a weight watchers consultation... first one is free right?

Bonnie,

The title is a clever trick you can use to grab attention. With so many posts out there you do need to have hooks to grab people. After Christine wrote "Does my header make my blog look fat?" I had to come back with a clever title.

This is my personal blog 8-) and <a href="http://theedublogger.edublogs.org/" rel="nofollow">The Edublogger</a> is my other blog which I author for <a href="http://edublogs.org/" rel="nofollow">Edublogs</a>.

Where am I in all this? Is that question to do with the challenge or the blogs? Will guess. I was the one who convinced that we should do the challenge. I haven't blogged about what I have learnt yet because I have been busy trouble shooting the issues with Technorati, working on the wiki and visiting participants to check out how they are going. But I hope to do it tomorrow on this blog.

Thanks Kerrie for the link - I did visit and leave a comment. I hope you join us for the Challenge.

Interesting conversation. I love that header, Sue and I got caught at least twice reading your teaser about the weight issue. How nice to know it’s the blog.
I thought about checking our your blog even though you didn’t list yourself with the participants, I think.
Your blog is filled with treasures of blog information. Where are you in all of this? Do you have a personal blog?

Jean,

I went across to Christine's site and posted your comment - sorry I didn't have time to link to your name (which was bad of me).

So me changing my blog header may have made you feel like you're not on my site? Sorry. I like the whole idea of what is a blog header saying to you -- while we are doing the comment challenge we should keep notes on our first impressions.

Christine,

What a great way of explaining how you view different images for different purposes. So your definition fits my blog because the ocean is calming to me and I like seeing my son's image.

Janning,
Great idea to do a blog header/image challenge. Perhaps after we get through the comment challenge?

I prefer certain types of images for different purposes. For business blogs I like to see strong relationship to the brand, and if it is a small business to the people who run it. For personal blogs I like images of where the person comes from or what they are passionate about.

As a reader of lots of blogs their headers are important to me, not only as a means of reminding myself where I am and whose blog I am reading but also because they give bloggers an opportunity to make an immediate visual connection with their readers. Sounds like there could be the start of another competition here - blog headers, their 'hidden messages' and reader reactions.
What sort of blog header images do you prefer?
