Sue,

Thunderbird. A free eMail client from Mozilla.

I've been able to get away from my online feed readers completely. Which is a good thing, I don't like having to hop from site to site to get my information. So, I set up the feeds in the News & Blogs section of the interface and voila.

More importantly, it has a nice spam function that learns as you go. So I am able to dump the spam into a folder or right to the trash. A basic eMail client, sure, with some cool features.

Hi Mike - know the feeling. Been a tad busy on the conference circuit and trying to catch up in the after mark. There is definitely a balance between collaboration and overload. Friends do help this.

Glad that my guidance with Ning has helped you -- let us both thank Michele Martin for shining us the torch so we could work out how to use it.

Can you tell me more about Thunderbird and how you use it?

Hi Cathy - thanks for dropping past my blog. I am glad my tips have helped I plan to write a post on more tips today. I totally love how Brian did this post - he really needs to shine the light on it because reading it in your Feed Reader does not make you realise the gems of information in the comments.

I just read your response to Bryan's "Welcome to Blogging" post, and wan to thank you for the insight. I've been blogging since June 2006, and have even changed my blogger platform (if that is how to say it) from blogger to Edubogs one time. I am guilty of several of the things would make posts better, and will strive in the future to remember your tips tht would make reading my log easier. Glad to add this to my reader too.

Sue,

I've been absent in my postings and readings thanks to some school and community obligations. Not to mention some fun adventures in dentistry.

I agree that communities that dump information cannot help. I learned effective information management by having a lot of it and needing to convey it simply. Call it my instructional design skillset, call it necessity, I needed to get organized.

I have stayed away from many avenues of collaboration because I could not easily identify an effective way to manage things. The last thing I want is more eMail/Bacn.

Like you, I get by with a little help from my friends. It was you who helped me overcome my lack of using Ning, which is turning into a great source of information about blogging.

I've advanced basic learnings from newsfeeds into a really effective use of Thunderbird.

Great post.
