Joel - as I have said previously I am glad my post on online video creators are helping you.

CogDog and Chris - thanks for encouraging me (challenging) to go further. Although dreaming of Domino all Saturday night should be up there as nightmare not dream. And the irony of it all is that I have spent a busy weekend testing all the online video creators (including SlideCast). Now that I have worked hard all weekend I would like to ask for my weekend again as I am tired!

G'day Sue,
Don't get me wrong, I really like it and think it's very cool. But educationally I think it's important that kids think about how they present this sort of visual information, that's why we spend time storyboarding and planning and so on. Animoto removes their creative input (although the finished result looks quite creative, it is really just a result of randomness) I suppose the real problem for me is that there is no way to actually control what happens, so in that sense the technology is making the decisions, not the user.
Still good fun though!

Animoto certainly has an interesting approach and the threshold to use it are pretty low- upload photos, pick music, and go.

The expansion of these kinds of web tools for creating audio/visual content is dizzying, and propelled me to do my 50 Web 2.0 Ways to Tell a Story
http://cogdogroo.wikispaces.com/50+Ways

and am attempting to try and build the same short digital story in all 50.

I only had heard of about 40% of the ones listed.

But beware the slippery slope of getting wrapped in the tools- what seems more important is the craft of writing/storyboarding a story; and learning what works in visual/audio/video expressive media.
